Easy Die Cutting Techniques - AECP

For my 5th course in AECP it was all about dies and different ways to use them.  This is a good course that helps you to discover techniques for using your supplies in multiple ways.  Really encourages you to think outside the box.

For my first card I used the Striped Leaf Cover Plate.  Instead of using the die to cut my cardstock I used it to emboss the cardstock.  After embossing I lay the cover plate OVER the embossed images and then used my Altenew Watercolor Palette to paint the leaves.  After watercoloring the leaves I then used Solar Paste through the stencil over the leaves for the shimmer.  Finally, I used gold foil on Celebrate from the Sweet Sentiments Hot Foil set.  After die cutting the sentiment I used my finger to rub a little solar paste on it.

For my next card I combined several techniques.  I used the feather die from the Mini Delight: Strength set and cut 7 feathers out.  I then cut 7 more feathers out of white cardstock.  I used 3 colors of Tim Hotlz Distress Mica Spray to color the feathers.  For 6 of the feathers I used the inlay technique and put 5 of the colored feathers in flush.  Then I popped one feather up using foam tape so it appears to be floating over the card.  With the last feather opening I used the technique of using the negative of the die cut.  With that negative I created a shaker.

To create the shaker portion I taped some acetate to the back of the craft cardstock.  Then I used foam tape all around the feather and then added some sequins that matched the colors of the feathers.  I think this card actually turned out to be pretty clean and simple.

I enjoyed trying to use my dies in a different way instead of just to cut out an image.

Which card is your favorite?
